“A COMMUNITY OR A NATION IS APPRAISED BY THE WAY IT TREATS ITS WEAKEST MEMBERS.”
The CAHL – Home for the Armenian Elderly, continues its ministry serving the elderly population of our Armenian community in Lebanon amidst a very difficult financial crisis and serious health hazard (COVID-19) in the country.
Currently CAHL is serving 124 elderly residents (additional 18 elderly are served with hot meals catered daily to their homes). Most of our residents are above the age of 78. Our 73 staff members (doctor, nurses, housekeepers and kitchen) do their utmost to keep them happy and healthy. There is no place like home, but in CAHL we also try our best to give them a home feeling by keeping the Armenian traditions, celebrating the Armenian holidays and cultural events and special occasions.
Because of the lockdown, music, crafts, movies have replaced visitors. The staff, in addition to their daily routine and busy tasks, and in order to compensate the role of visitors, are also instructed to take the role of family members and give additional social and psychological care to the elderly.
Two of our main immediate challenges are:
- COVID-19 Pandemic, the daily struggle is to call suppliers and vendors in order to purchase the necessary supplies. This brings us to our 2nd challenge.
- Budget/Financing needs. Lebanon is facing a severe economic crisis and hence all are affected by this and so is CAHL
- Our future challenge։ The number of elderlies with dementia and Alzheimer is increasing. Taking care of such patients needs a special facility and professionals.
Our main source of trust is our Lord. Our faith helps us to continue our ministry and service knowing that God will take care of His children and that He will inspire Good Samaritans to help the weak and the neglected of their compatriots.
AMAC is the channel that transfers the amounts received from good Samaritans in Canada.
