The Armenian Evangelical Secondary School of Anjar, with its boarding department, is the only school in the near east diaspora that provides both residential care and education.
The school’s mission is to:
- Provide a safe environment to underprivileged children seeking social and psychological support
- Deliver solid and quality educational care through the offering of high quality academic programs
- Engage children in the Armenian/Lebanese community by empowering them and teaching values and heritage
- Instill Christian values and a personal spiritual relationship with Jesus the Savior through sharing God’s love and grace
The school was established in 1942 and has had all cycles of education from kindergarten, elementary, intermediate and secondary since 1956. The school provides education to children from ages 3 to 18 making sure that every child despite his or her economic background and family situation would have the chance of a proper education. For that reason, it has a very special place in the Lebanese reality by operating not merely through general and personalized educational programs, but also through socio-humanitarian pillars namely our boarding department established in 1947 to take care of orphans and children in need.
Currently, the boarding school hosts students from various denominations and both genders. They come from low socio-economic status, some are orphans, some have experienced abuse physically and verbally, some live in dire conditions, some are in danger of violence as it is not safe for them to be with their families/relatives. We receive them into our large family and provide care, attention and love. Children need a healthy environment, encouraging caregivers, a school that accepts their weaknesses and reinforces their strengths.
Some features of the school include:
- A personalized education program for students with special needs, students with educational gaps, and for refugee children who may not have been to school in several years
- Scholarship program available for Syrian refugee children
- Scholarship fund for the boarders (including food, living expenses and special needs)
- Scholarships for gifted students of families with limited financial resources
- GoGreen project teaching botany and practical agricultural skills to the students
- Benefits of recycling program
- Use of solar panels
- Summer shelter for children at-risk
- Training and support for the teachers of these children
One of the greatest tools that are being offered to the students are the availability and use of tablets, to help students and their families become knowledgeable and engaged with technology, in addition to remedial English language classes for Syrian boarders.
Therefore, throughout everything that the school does, we look to and follow the example provided by Christ – that is, to transform challenges into changes for the better and to support the children and their families with love, care, hospitality, empathy, a counseling ear and shoulder, and much more.
The Armenian Evangelical Secondary School with its boarding department (AEBS) is the only school in the Near East Diaspora that provides both residential care and education to students 4-18 years old.
