The backpack project started with an idea, turned into a mission and ended up being a very successful project.

When we decided to prepare gifts for the children and send them to the war torn region of Artsakh, we could not imagine that we will have enough to fill a 40′ container. But the Armenian community of Montreal and Armenian businessmen came together to make the AMAC backpack project a great success.

During the weekend of November 13-15, hundreds of families brought toys, school supplies and warm clothing to fill 1100 backpacks! Dozens of volunteers worked around the clock to sort the gifts, put them in backpacks, package them in carton boxes and fill up the container which was parked at the First Armenian Evangelical Church parking lot. Many people who were not able to go and buy gifts provided monetary donations which allowed the organizing committee to make the purchases on their behalf.

We want to thank each and everyone who participated in this project and contributed in different ways. This was a great testimony on what we can do when we work in unity for a cause. Special thanks to Ardene who donated the backpacks, as well as 450 boxes of brand new clothing which filled the remaining space in the container. The shipment has left Montreal and is expected to arrive in the AMAA office in Yerevan in early January. We pray that these gifts will bring a much needed smile to the children of Armenia and Artsakh during the Christmas season, and fill their hearts with Christ’s love and joy.
