LanguageLink Armenia is a nonprofit organization aiming to provide English tutoring to students in Armenia.
This project has received valuable support from the Armenian Missionary Project of Canada (AMAC). They have partnered with AMAA’s Khoren and Shooghanig Avedisian School and Community Center in Yerevan to provide students of all levels with additional opportunities to enhance their English speaking, writing and reading abilities.
By pairing students in Armenia with volunteers in North America, they have been able to have regular virtual meetings to improve students’ conversational skills, grammar, reading comprehension and overall confidence when speaking English.
LanguageLink Armenia was founded by two university students from Toronto, Canada, Anna Mouzenian and Tivene Derohanesian. They recognized that many students in Armenia desire to improve their English skills. English is a global language and becoming more proficient can help open the door to academic, career, and international communication opportunities for Armenian students.
Although both born and raised in Canada, Tivene and Anna feel a deep-rooted connection to their Armenian ancestry and were also motivated by the cultural exchange that is possible through this program. The volunteers in North America and the students in Armenia are able to form cross-cultural collaborative relationships.
The founders of LanguageLink hope to provide students in Armenia with the resources to use language, specifically English, as a tool for empowerment. They look forward with excitement to the future of the program.
