The first ever “Practical and Interactive Life Skills Training for Children” took place on Saturday, March 12th, 2022.
The afternoon started off with Raffi Shnorhokian, the AMAC president, who welcomed all the attendees.
Then, it was Salpi Nercessian, the Program Director’s turn to take the stage. She explained the program to the parents and the children.
The children got to know each other with some fun ice breaker games. They even got to do some seated exercises, to help them focus.
It was then time for the main program, which consists of four parts.
Throughout the 4 weeks, the four skills presented will be as followed: positivity, respect, listening and cooperation.
Positivity was the topic on the first day. All throughout the afternoon, the children learned about this, through interactive games, arts and crafts, as well as storytelling. The children all had a chance to share something positive about their friends, neighbors, schools, families or even themselves. They will also continue with this practice once home, where they will fill their “positivity jar” daily, with three positive things about their day.
The children were all actively participating during the program, and were engaged at all times. We all know how much of a victory this is for a 100% screen-free program.
At the end of the program, the kids all left with their own inflated balloons, on which they had written positive notes about their family members.
The kids are all impatiently waiting for next week, where they will learn about respect. They will also hear the rest of the continuous story that they started this week which teaches about positivity and building good relationships. Part 2, coming up… Stay tuned.
